Introduction to Systems Engineering
The aim of this course is to provide an understanding of the processes and management practices associated with the systems engineering discipline. The course is ideally suited to engineers who are new to the discipline, as well as to project managers and project staff who work with systems engineers. The course highlights how systems engineering principles can be applied to technical projects, and what products to expect from the systems engineering effort. The course also provides the first three days of the five-day course: Systems Engineering Practice.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR MIKE RYAN
Associate Professor Mike Ryan holds BE, MEngSc and PhD degrees in electrical engineering from the University of New South Wales. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia (FIEAust), a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in electrical and ITEE colleges, a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE), a Fellow of the International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE), and a Fellow of the Institute of Management and Leadership (FIML). Since 1981, he has held a number of positions in communications and systems engineering and in management and project management. Since 1998, he has been with the University of New South Wales, at the Australian Defence Force Academy where he is currently the Director of the Capability Systems Centre. His research and teaching interests are in communications and information systems, requirements engineering, systems engineering, project management, and technology management. He is the Editor-in-Chief of an international journal, and is a co-chair of the Requirements Working Group INCOSE. He is the author or co-author of twelve books, three book chapters, and over 200 technical papers and reports.
DR IAN FAULCONBRIDGE
Dr Ian Faulconbridge has a Doctorate, Masters, and Bachelors degree in engineering and an MBA in project management. He is a Fellow of Engineers Australia (FIEAust), a Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in the electrical and aerospace colleges, a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) and a Senior Member of IEEE (SMIEEE). Since 1990, he has held a number of engineering, project management and academic positions in the fields of avionics, simulation, radar, communications and information systems. He is the director of a Canberra-based engineering consultancy (magpietech.com) where he is an active industry consultant in both Government and private sectors. He is an Industry Fellow at UNSW, Canberra where he supports a number of programs within the School of Engineering and Information Technology. He is the author or co-author of a number of books covering radar, radar electronic warfare, avionics systems and systems engineering.
